Host Country May Look Forward To the 2nd Round

After their 1-1 draw against Mexico at Soccer City in Johannesburg, the tiny midfielder of South Africa Siphiwe Tshabalala informed that the host country may look ahead to the second round of the 2010 FIFA World Cup if they beat Uruguay in Pretoria on Wednesday.

France failed to set the World Cup 2010 on fire with their goalless draw against Uruguay and now in order to look forward they must win their next Group A match against Mexico.

In spite of some superb save from Super Eagles goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama, Argentina won the match 1-0 against Nigeria on Saturday at Ellis Park. After this match Diego Maradona informed that the South Americans will not going to fear any opponent at the FIFA World Cup 2010 during their journey for the third global title.

Germany snatches a 4-0 victory over Australia in their opening game which relieved their Coach Joachim Low who believes that his team can get even better.

Famous Pop Singer Shakira to perform the theme song of World Cup

FIFA World Cup 2010 starts on 10th June 10, 2010 at 8pm local time at the newly-renovated Orlando Stadium in Soweto/Johannesburg, South Africa.  In the opening ceremony famous Pop singer Shakira will perform the FIFA World Cup theme song “Waka Waka” or This Time for Africa. Other celebrity singers such as Alicia keys, John Legend, Black Eyed Peas etc will also grace the grand opening ceremony by their performances.

Swiss captain got an ankle injury
 

Swiss captain Alex Frei has got an ankle injury which might be a little serious and left his Swiss fans worried that it may cause his exclusion from the Switzerland football team of the World Cup.




Marcello Lippi is angry

Italian coach Marcello Lippi is angry with the Italian critics after hearing that his Squad is little too old to be competing for a World Cup and asked the critics to at least give his team a chance to prove themselves.

FIFA World Cup 2010 Video Game

The official video game for FIFA World Cup 2010 is “2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa” which is published by EA Sports.

Simon Humber, one of the producers of the game announced it on 26th January 2010 and it was released on 27th April, 2010 in North America. 199 teams that took part in the qualification round are included in the game. A playable demo version of the game was released for Xbox 360 and PS 3 on 8th April 2010. This version of the game features the new two button control method aimed to make the game friendlier to the users who are new to the FIFA Series and ability to upload video replays to EA Football World.

Current FIFA World Rankings

FIFA declared the ranking system of FIFA World Rankings for men's national football team on 26th May 2010 which is at present led by Brazil. This ranking system was 1st introduced in 1992 and six teams have obtained the top position till today. They are Argentina, Brazil, France, Germany, Italy and Spain. Among them Brazil have spent longest time in the top position.

There is also a point system in which some points are awarded to the teams on the basis of the result of FIFA recognized matches. Under the current system, rankings are given evaluating a team’s performance over the past four years, where more recent results and more significant matches are given high preferences to recognize the present competitive state of a team.

FIFA World Cup 2010

The premier international football tournament, 19th FIFA World Cup will be held between 11th June and 11th July this year in South Africa. The qualification process starts on August 2007 and involved 204 teams out of 208 FIFA national teams.

This is the first time an African country has been chosen by FIFA to host this prestigious tournament. Africa was chosen as the host because of the policy to rotate the event among football confederations. But this policy was later abandoned in 2007. During the process to choose the host of the 2010 World Cup five African nations placed their bids. They are Egypt, Libya/Tunisia (co-hosting), Morocco, and South Africa. After Libya/Tunisia withdrew from the bidding process following the decision of the FIFA Executive Committee not to allow co-hosted tournaments, South Africa was awarded the rights to host the tournament, defeating Morocco and Egypt. South Africa got total 14 votes where Morocco got 10 and Egypt 0.

On 17th March 2006, FIFA officially announced the venues used for World Cup 2010, they are: Bloemfontein (Free State Stadium), Cape Town (Cape Town Stadium), Durban (Moses Mabhida Stadium), Johannesburg (two Venues) (Soccer City and Ellis Park Stadium), Kimberley, Nelspruit (Mbombela Stadium), Orkney, Polokwane (Peter Mokaba Stadium), Port Elizabeth (Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium), Pretoria (Loftus Versfeld Stadium) and Rustenburg (Royal Bafokeng Stadium).

Five new stadiums have been built for the tournament, and five of the existing venues are to be upgraded. Construction costs are expected to be R8.4bn.
